1. When will I be opted in to San Diego Community Power?
Current SDG&E customers living in the unincorporated area are scheduled to be automatically enrolled per California state law as customers of San Diego Community Power (SDCP) on April 1, 2023.
2. How can I opt out of San Diego Community Power?
Customers who want to continue purchasing their electricity from SDG&E must opt out of the automatic transfer. To opt out, individuals need to visit the SDCP website and complete the Account Information form which can be accessed using the following link: https://sdcommunitypower.org/your-choice/opt-out/
3. Is there is a difference in price between SDCP and SDG&E?
San Diego Community Power’s basic electricity generation service is currently 3% cheaper than SDG&E’s bundled service. You can use San Diego Community Power’s bill calculator to determine what that means for you at: https://sdcommunitypower.org/your-choice/compare-service-plans/.

4. What will happen if I have a “grandfathered” Direct Access energy provider and I decide to join San Diego Community Power?
Commercial Direct Access accounts — SDCP will not enroll commercial direct access accounts during the April 2023 enrollment period.
Residential Direct Access accounts — customers will have to opt out prior to enrollment to retain their direct access status. If you are a residential direct access customer, you may receive a call from SDCP staff explaining this situation.
5. What are some reasons people may want to switch to SDCP?
Each customer should evaluate their own electricity use and the rate structures offered by SDG&E and SDCP to determine if it is in their best interest to remain as an SDG&E customer or to allow themselves to be automatically opted in to SDCP.
