The mountain town’s mission recently faced a challenge when the brightness of fourteen newly installed streetlights exceeded dark sky community standards — prompting the Julian Dark Sky Network to seek assistance from my office.

Upon receiving their request, my team and I swiftly mobilized and collaborated with San Diego Gas & Electric.

I am pleased to report that through our coordinated efforts, the luminosity of the streetlights was effectively reduced from 6200 lumens to 4000 lumens in compliance with dark sky community standards.
