“Homelessness is a complex issue, but we can tackle it by working together. I am grateful to the El Cajon leaders who joined me today to discuss how we can help get people off the street, rather than kicking them down the street,” Anderson stated.

Anderson discussed his efforts to bring more homelessness and behavioral health resources to East County, including safe parking lots, shelters, and a Crisis Stabilization Unit – a 24-hour facility to care for those experiencing mental health crises. He also explained that due to existing laws and court decisions, local governments like the City and County are limited in their ability to enforce laws against sleeping on public property unless individuals can be offered a free emergency shelter bed.
